Kavouras Roulette Strategy
The legal Kavouras layout uses the 13/14 split. A 4/13 instruction is a misprint: those numbers are not adjacent on a standard roulette table.
Use the legal 13/14 split, not 4/13. The eight-unit layout covers 20 European pockets and retains the normal negative expectation.

Why 13/14 is required
Numbers 13 and 14 are adjacent in the same row, so 13/14 is a legal split. The following table applies only to the legal 13/14 correction.
Worked example and risk
A table can accept 8/11 and 13/14 because each pair touches on the betting grid; it cannot accept a chip spanning 4 and 13. With the corrected layout, a 14 split hit returns 18 including stake against the total 8 units placed: net +10. The losing components cost 7 units. A number outside all components loses eight. The expected result is (4 × 1 + 6 × 4 + 10 × 10 − 17 × 8) / 37 = −8/37 units. Its 20-pocket coverage does not make it suitable for an American wheel, whose first-four bet and zerowheelZeroThe single green pocket that no even-money, dozen or column bet covers; the source of the house edge. Questions
