5x5 Roulette Strategy

The 5x5 system covers five of six disjoint six-lines, then multiplies every line stake by five after a miss. Its opening layout has a high hit rate, but later hits do not always recover earlier misses.

Short answer

Five one-unit six-lines cover 30 European pockets and net +1 on a hit or −5 on a miss. After one miss, a five-unit-per-line hit only breaks even for the cycle.

Steps and layout

Choose five non-overlapping six-lines from the six standard table groups, leaving one six-line unbet. Place one unitmoneyUnitThe base stake a system or a player works in. A hit resets every line to one unit; a miss multiplies every line stake by five: 1, then 5, then 25, then 125. Worked example

The opening five-line layoutequipmentLayoutThe printed betting grid on the table. Also: table, felt, cloth.Read full → costs five. A selected number returns six gross from its winning line, so 6 − 5 = +1. After one miss, five units have been lost and the next layout costs 25, or five on each line. A hit then returns 30 gross and nets +5 for that spin, exactly offsetting the earlier −5. After two misses, the 25-per-line hit earns +25 on its own but follows losses of 30, leaving the cycle −5.

Expectation and risk

The hit rate is 30/37 = 81.081%, while a miss has probabilitymathProbabilityChance of an outcome, from 0 to 1 or 0% to 100%. One number: 1/37 = 2.70%.Read full → 7/37. At the base level, expected result is (30 × 1 − 7 × 5) / 37 = −5/37, one thirty-seventh of the opening stake. Repeated misses produce total stakes of 5, 25, 125, 625 and beyond. A claim that multiplying by five guarantees recovery is false after the first miss; every European unit staked, including the enlarged levels, retains expected lossmathExpected lossExpected value times total amount wagered; the average amount lost over a session or a period.Read full → 1/37.

Questions

Does a fivefold increase always win back the prior loss?

No. It breaks even after one miss, but after two misses a hit still leaves the cycle five units down.

Why is the coverage not 81% on every wheel?

Thirty covered pockets out of 37 is 81.081% on a single-zerowheelZeroThe single green pocket that no even-money, dozen or column bet covers; the source of the house edge. Also: single zero, 0.Read full → wheel. A double-zero wheel has 38 pockets, so the fraction changes.
