The belief that a run of wins, or of one result, makes another more likely. At the wheel it is the gambler’s fallacy turned around.

The name comes from a 1985 study of basketball shooting. In a Reno casino, players who had just won on the numbers covered about 13.6 numbers on the next spin, against 9.2 after a loss.
