Corners versus two splits

A $10 corner on 16-17-19-20 and two $5 splits (16-17 and 19-20) are equivalent bets: both cover the four numbers and both return $80 of winnings on a hit. The corner saves a chip. The difference appears only when you want unequal weights.

Questions

Can four numbers that are not a square be a corner?

No. The chip must touch all four cells at one point. 1-2-4-5 is a corner; 1-3-4-6 is not a bet.

Is the basket worse than other corners?

On a European wheel it is identical: 4 of 37, pays 8 to 1.

Comic relief

Four numbers sharing one point. Nothing else qualifies.
